USP at The Hague

USP has excelled at The Hague Inter-University Law Debate over the years, building a strong reputation for advocacy, preparation, and excellence on the international stage.

In 2024, our team were the Vice Champions of this prestigious international competition.

In 2026, our team also reached the 1/8 finals, further highlighting the strength and consistency of USP’s advocacy at The Hague.

Inter-Tertiary Moot

USP Performance Centre

The Inter-Tertiary Moot is a mooting competition held within Fiji, bringing together law students from USP, Fiji National University (FNU), and The University of Fiji (UNIFIJI). These teams compete before a panel of judges comprising legal practitioners, academics, and occasionally members of the judiciary.

The USPLSA Internal Moot is the flagship mooting competition within USP's School of Law, organized by the USP Law Students Association. Open to all enrolled law students, it serves as both a training ground for novice mooters and the official selection pathway for students wishing to represent USP at the Inter-Tertiary Moot in Fiji.

USPLSA Internal Moot – Your Pathway to Advocacy

The USPLSA Internal Moot is the flagship mooting competition within USP's School of Law, organized by the USP Law Students Association. Open to all enrolled law students, it serves as both a training ground for novice mooters and the official selection pathway for students wishing to represent USP at the Inter-Tertiary Moot in Fiji.

Participants are paired into teams and assigned a legal problem. Each team prepares written memorials and presents oral submissions before a panel of judges comprising senior law students, tutors, and legal practitioners.

What you will gain:

Hands-on experience in legal research and writing
Practice in structuring persuasive oral arguments
Feedback from experienced mooters and legal professionals
The opportunity to represent USP at the Inter-Tertiary Moot

The USPLSA Internal Moot is held in Semester 2. Registration opens at the start of the semester. No prior mooting experience is required.

IRAC and Referencing Workshop – Master the Foundations of Legal Writing

The IRAC (Issue, Rule, Application, Conclusion) framework is the standard structure for legal problem-solving used in law schools, exams, and professional practice. Proper legal referencing is essential for avoiding plagiarism and maintaining academic integrity.

This workshop, organized by the USPLSA, will cover both referencing styles required in the USP School of Law:

AGLC (Australian Guide to Legal Citation) – for legal sources such as cases and legislation
SOL (School of Law) – for specific faculty requirements and non-legal sources

Topics include:

Identifying the legal Issue in a problem question
Finding and stating the relevant Rule of law
Applying the law to the facts (Application/Analysis)
Reaching a clear Conclusion
AGLC and SOL referencing: footnotes, cases, legislation, and secondary sources
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
